Strings die faster in Lebanon’s humidity than almost anywhere else. Sweat, salt air and heat strip the brightness out of a fresh set within days — unless you take two minutes of care after every session.
Why strings go dead
String “death” is mostly contamination: skin oils and moisture working into the windings, corroding the metal and damping the vibration. You hear it as a dull, lifeless tone and feel it as grime under your fingers.
The two-minute routine
Wipe the strings down after playing — over and under — with a microfibre cloth. Then apply a string cleaner and lubricant like GHS Fast-Fret: it cleans off the residue, leaves a fast, slick feel, and meaningfully extends string life. Used consistently, a set can last two to three times longer, which pays for the can many times over.
Beyond the strings
Condition the fingerboard when you change strings, polish the frets once or twice a year, and keep the guitar in its case with a humidity pack through the summer. Small habits, big difference.
